Liberal Doesn’t Want Women to Carry Pepper Spray… “Offensive”

While a majority of American citizens seem to intuitively understand the natural and inherent right of self-defense — conveniently codified by the Second Amendment of the Constitution — the same cannot be said with confidence about citizens in other countries.

Take for example our neighbors in Canada, where a female member of parliament running for the top leadership post in the Conservative Party, Kellie Leitch, has promised as part of her campaign to change the law of the land and allow for individuals to carry mace or pepper spray as a means to defend themselves, which is currently illegal.

Citing the high rate of Canadian women who fall victim to sexual assault and noting that something must be done to rectify the situation, Leitch wrote in a Facebook post, “One sensible way to do this is to allow women to carry and use mace and pepper spray for self-defense. Women should not be forced by the law to be victims of violence when there exist non-lethal means by which they can protect themselves.”

But that “sensible” solution has been met with abject horror from liberal feminists north of the border, one of whom called the mere idea of women defending themselves from attackers “offensive” in and of itself, according to The Huffington Post.

“Violence against women is unacceptable in our society and our government is committed to making sure that women facing violence have a safe place to turn,” stated Patty Hadju, the federal status of women minister — a post formerly held by Leitch.

“Ms. Leitch’s proposal is unrealistic and offensive to women across this country,” Hadju continued. “Her misguided approach places the onus on women to defend themselves rather than focusing on addressing and preventing gender-based violence.”

Instead of women being permitted to carry a tool that could very well save their lives, Hadju would rather develop a “federal gender-based violence strategy” that would somehow ensure all women are able to live utterly free of violence of any sort.

Ahh, so that’s how we attain the fabled liberal utopia: by relying upon a “federal strategy” and being offended by the very idea of defending oneself.

National Review noted that Leitch responded to Hadju’s absurdity in the best possible way by simply displaying the ridiculousness for all to see with a tweet.

Leitch tweeted, “Should a woman shout ‘federal gender-based violence strategy!’ if they are (sic) attacked?

“I think they should use mace & pepper spray,” she added.

And we think they should be allowed to use knives, handguns, shotguns or even rifles, if that is the best tool necessary for the job at hand.

Alas, this is Canada we are talking aboot here, eh, so “No weapons for you!” unless of course you beg the benevolent government for permission.

It should come as no surprise that we support Leitch in her endeavor to allow Canadians (of either gender) to protect themselves from criminals with mace or pepper spray, and find it offensive ourselves that liberal feminists are so offended by the notion of self-defense that they would deny innocent women the tools necessary to protect their own lives.
