In an unbelievable move, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has said that he was working on legislation that would remove from office any official who promotes sanctuary cities in his state that refuse to cooperate with the federal government in the processing of illegal immigrants.
In a recent interview with Fox News, he also revealed that he will be cutting off any grants from the governor’s office that go to sheriff’s offices in sanctuary cities in the state of Texas.
“These sheriff’s offices receive grants from the governor’s office in the state of Texas,” he said. “We are cutting off those grants to any sanctuary city in the state of Texas.”
“We are gonna crack down on this,” Abbott said in the interview, “and ban sanctuary cities in Texas.”
Apparently, there is at least one governor in line with President Donald Trump on this issue.
This is not the first time Abbott has spoken out against sanctuary cities. In Nov. 2016, Abbott said that he would be banning sanctuary cities after he was asked by a Twitter user what he could do against Austin existing as a sanctuary city.
“@GregAbbott_TX just saw on @FoxNews that Austin pledges to remain a sanctuary city,” the user said. “Is there anything your office can do to reverse this?”
Yes. I’m going to sign a law that bans sanctuary cities. Also I’ve already issued an order cutting funding to sanctuary cities. #txlege https://t.co/uYXa2QFrvE

Keep up the good work, Gov. Abbott.
