Dem Lawmakers Target Stand Your Ground Law in North Carolina

Democrat lawmakers are taking aim at second amendment rights in the state of North Carolina.

The current “stand your ground” laws in the Tar Heel State, which permits law-abiding citizens to defend themselves if potential criminals invade their car, home, or workplace, are in danger.

House Bill 723, also known as the Gun Safety Act, would eliminate the vehicle and workplace provisions that protect gun owners in state law, and limit that to just the home, according to WNCT.

State Reps. Verla Insko and Pricey Harrison — both Democrats, of course — introduced the bill on April 10 to the state’s House of Representatives.

“We have too many horrific, often accidental, gun deaths, and I believe in common sense gun laws that would help control some of that,” Insko said, according to The Daily Tar Heel.

(For for those who don’t know already, that’s liberal code for: “We’re scared and want your rights.”)

“The ‘stand your ground’ law is not needed,” she also said. “That’s giving an individual the right to be the judge, jury and executioner all at once.”

No, it’s not.

It’s recognizing the right Americans have to defend themselves, something the government has absolutely no business trying to gain control of.

The bill also aims at requiring firearm owners to acquire liability insurance. According to the bill:

“Any person in this State who intends to own a firearm shall, prior to the ownership of the firearm, obtain, and during ownership continuously maintain, a policy of liability insurance in an amount not less than one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of the firearm while it is owned by the person. No firearm shall be transferred in this State unless the transferee at the time of the transfer provides proof that the transferee has complied with the provisions of this section.”

This is a bill that was created under the supposition that law-abiding citizens are responsible for gun deaths. They rarely are.

The bad guys are, and none of them will likely be picking up liability insurance anytime soon.
