On Wednesday, June 28, Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro will be headlining a speaking event at Canada’s first-ever Freedom Summit.
Organized by the popular (and enthusiastically growing!) student group, Students in Support of Free Speech (SSFS), the event has three goals.
1. To raise awareness for the importance of maintaining our freedom of speech.
2. To teach and set an example for resolution through peaceful discussion.
3. To encourage students, our future leaders, to broaden their minds.
In response to a bevy of prestigious universities across North America, (that includes you, UC Berkeley) effectively adopting George Orwell’s Animal Farm as their founding document, SSFS has organized the Freedom Summit to invigorate students’ willingness to stand up for free speech, sans censorship.
Mari Jang, the president of the University of Toronto’s SSFS group, and an event director commented on the upcoming Freedom Summit, saying “The conference is a way to teach people what it means to engage in peaceful discussion and by no means intends to be threatening.”
Baruch Harari, financial director of York University’s SSFS, and an event director, also gave his thoughts: “Many universities in Canada have become a place where students go to get indoctrinated. These universities push a progressive agenda and anyone standing in their way is deemed a racist or a bigot. The summit is drawing attention to how diversity of thought is greatly needed in academia.”
Besides Ben Shapiro, the Freedom Summit will feature Justice Center of Constitutional Freedoms President John Carpay in addition to Amanda Ellen Gibbs (founder of “Liberal, Not Lefty”), Alex Van Hamme (founder of Free Bird Media), and popular YouTuber, Josephine Mathias.
Students in Support of Free Speech is also cooperating with Students for Liberty, The Ludwig von Mises Institute, Manning Centre, The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, Young Americas Foundation and Turning Point Canada to organize this event.
