USA Today Video Imagines Obama, Trudeau Meeting Was a Man Date

“The two leaders met for dinner in Montreal to gaze into each other’s eyes and talk about plans for the future.”

What’s up with this weird video from USA Today which romanticized a private dinner between Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau?

On Tuesday, the pair met at a restaurant in the prime minister’s hometown of Montreal to discuss world issues and how to encourage young people to take “action in their communities,” according to Trudeau’s tweet:

After the dinner, Obama and Trudeau were greeted outside of the restaurant by fans and onlookers who watched them men part ways with a hug. But USA Today fantasized it was a man date meant to keep “their bromance alive.”

Similar statements have been made before about the kinship between Obama and Trudeau, but USA Today’s video took it to a whole new level — complete with a romantic soundtrack. Right off the bat, a heart emoji appears between them on a picture of their faces close together. The outlet called it “an intimate dinner” and the hug “a warm embrace.” At the end, a picture of Joe Biden wiping away tears is captioned, “Sorry, Joe.”

But USA Today wasn’t the only media outlet talking bromance. The San Francisco Gate posted a video which proclaimed that “the flame has been reunited” between the prime minister and former U.S. president. When this video shows Trudeau’s tweet, animated hearts swirl around and the voiceover notes the “candlelit dinner.”

“Don’t worry, Joe [Biden], you’re still the one,” the voiceover adds.

Apparently, this is what qualifies for journalism these days.
