Crafty Germans Install Beer Pipeline

A four mile long pipeline will carry beer to tens of thousands of eager concert goers in Germany this summer.

According to Tribunist, Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival is one of the biggest festivals in the country. Beer trucks were not meeting the needs of festival goers in previous years, so the event organizers came up with a new and improved way to serve its guests.

Instead of trucks or tents, a massive black pipeline built two and a half feet below ground will bring 105,669 gallons of beer to the festival.

“With this, the grounds will not need to have any heavy trucks distributing beer barrels,” the festival’s founder, Holger Hubner said.

Fox News reported that the pipeline will be a permanent fixture of the festival for years to come. “The installation of the pipes and the enlarged drainage is a lasting investment in the infrastructure of Wacken,” the festival’s website noted.

While it might seem like an excuse to indulge in as much brew as one wants, there’s also a deeper reason for the pipeline’s creation.

No more beer trucks means less traffic at the festival. Moreover, the property of the festival will also be protected, as trucks tend to cut up the grass and limit the amount of land that can be farmed throughout the year.

Of course, festival goers are excited for the new addition. According to Eater, the pipeline can produce as much as six beers in six seconds, also cutting down on drink wait times for attendees.

It may seem like a crazy construction, but Germany has got it right when it comes to quick service and efficient implementation of a new idea.
