Liberals Dead Silent After Scientists Destroy Their “Climate Change” Hurricane Fantasy

In the wake of deadly hurricanes Harvey and Irma, liberals insisted that “climate change” was responsible for the devastating storms, but scientists have since debunked that theory.

In its most recent scientific assessment, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reported that “(n)o robust trends in annual numbers of tropical storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes … have been identified over the past 100 years in the North Atlantic basin,” and that there are “no significant observed trends in global tropical cyclone frequency,” according to the Heritage Foundation.

In other words, “man-made warming” did not cause Harvey and Irma, despite what liberal bleeding hearts would have us all believe.

Writing for Heritage, environmental analyst Nicholas Loris explained that the “average number of hurricanes per decade reaching landfall in the U.S. has fallen over the past 160 years,” despite an increase in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions.

Loris also pointed to a report from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, which determined that it was “premature” to accuse “human activities” — even those such as greenhouse gas emissions — of having a “detectable impact on Atlantic hurricane or global tropical cyclone activity.”

Some liberals have also claimed that even if human activities didn’t explicitly cause recent hurricanes, they at least contributed to their strength — an argument which was also debunked.

In fact, University of Washington climatologist Cliff Mass examined precipitation levels in the Gulf of Mexico and found no evidence that global warming was influencing Texas coastal precipitation in the long term.

He also found “little evidence that warmer than normal temperatures had any real impact on the precipitation intensity from this storm.”

Not to mention the fact that Harvey was the first major hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. since 2005. If so-called “anti-environmentally safe” activities were causing instability and an uptick in tropical activity, wouldn’t we have seen an increase in these severe storms?

As noted by Loris, policymakers should be more focused on helping storm victims rather than taking their misfortune as a political opportunity to push a certain agenda.
