Feds hire private security companies to enforce home quarantines
The Canadian government contracted private security agencies to ensure unvaccinated people comply with home quarantines upon returning from abroad.
“If you are in quarantine, the Public Health Agency of Canada has trained and designated screening officers, but it’s from third-party security companies,” said an ArriveCan information line agent named Sumia on a Wednesday phone call.
“It’s from Commissionaires, G4S Secure Solutions, Garda Canada Security Corporations, and Paladin Risk Solutions.”
Sumia said the security officers will conduct random visits to people’s homes to confirm they are quarantining. She said they will carry identification and can show a designation letter upon request.
She went on to say security officials will ask to speak to travellers by name and request government-issued identification. They will ask questions to ensure travellers are complying.
Sumia said the security officers might take a photo of people’s places to confirm a visit has taken place. She called these visits “similar to a parcel delivery company.”
