Netflix hired a convicted stalker who was also charged with soliciting prostitution to serve as an expert on an upcoming docuseries about the Zodiac Killer.
Tom Voigt considers himself a leading expert on the serial killer who terrorized California in the late 1960s, having run a blog tracking updates in the investigation for the better part of 30 years.
But his obsession with the case – and his own past criminal conduct – has come under scrutiny over the years.
Voigt proposed to his now-wife Angie on December 20, 2018 at Lake Herman Road – the site of the first known Zodiac Killer deaths, 50 years to the day after the crimes were committed.
In all, the Zodiac Killer – whose identity has never been conclusively revealed – targeted at least seven victims, five of whom died.
He would taunt officers with letters mailed to newspapers, threatening to embark on mass murder sprees. He claimed to have killed 37 victims.
Voigt, of Columbia City in Oregon, has been following the case on his own blog, along with Reddit threads and social media forums for decades.
DailyMail.com can reveal that in 2005, Voigt was convicted of four counts of stalking, and violating a court’s stalking protective order in Oregon.
He was granted probation to community corrections and ordered to complete 160 hours of community service.
Separately, in 1991 Voigt was charged with prostitution – a class A misdemeanor relating to the solicitation of sexual services.
Voigt was confronted over the stalking charge in 2018 during a Reddit Q&A seminar relating to his work trying to unmask the Zodiac Killer.
Another user wrote: ‘Is he too busy stalking women to answer the questions or what’s going on….?’
Voigt responded: ‘I can multitask.’
