In a speech from the House floor, Rep. Thomas Massie honored survivors of the Israeli attack on US sailors, challenged the official narrative, and called for a new investigation.
(LifeSiteNews) — On Monday, the 59th anniversary of the deadly Israeli attack upon the USS Liberty in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie took to the floor of the House of Representatives to bring attention to this largely ignored incident, call for a new investigation and honor survivors with an official resolution.
“It’s my great honor, maybe one of the biggest honors of my lifetime,” to address an incident “59 years overdue” and “to recognize the survivors and those who gave their lives on the USS Liberty… when they were viciously attacked by IDF jets, and also after that by torpedo boats,” said the Congressman, who was targeted and defeated in his Republican primary last month by the pro-Israel billionaire class.
59 years ago today, Israel attacked the USS Liberty in international waters. 34 crew members were killed and 174 were wounded by the IDF.

Massie noted that at least a dozen survivors were present in Washington and had met with him earlier that day. He recounted their story in detail: “It was a clear day. The USS Liberty was one of the most technologically sophisticated ships in the Navy, but it was virtually unarmed, and it was sent to observe the Six-Day War going on in the Middle East between Israel and its neighbors.” The ship arrived on June 7 in clear weather with unlimited visibility and an American flag “flying proudly.”
