The show Secret America is built around a simple idea: exposing people to the evidence they didn’t know existed behind the stories they didn’t know happened. That’s where the name Secret America comes from. We explore the side of America, and the forces shaping it, that most people never hear about.
One subject we routinely investigate is the advancement of radical Islamist ideology in America.
America wasn’t conquered by an invading army.
There were no tanks rolling through Washington.
Institutions.
Its leaders understood that defeating the United States militarily was nearly impossible.
Changing it from within was different.
So, they played the long game.
They built political organizations. They recruited activists. They accumulated money and influence. They learned the language of American politics and carefully disguised authoritarian objectives as ordinary political reforms.
They didn’t demand everything immediately.
That would frighten people.
Instead, every victory moved the line slightly.
