Doctors in Canada are renewing a disturbing push for the globalist government to expand the nation’s already rapidly growing “assisted suicide” regime to begin euthanizing newborn babies.
The expansion would allow taxpayer-funded doctors to euthanize infants suffering from disabilities and medical conditions.
The Quebec College of Physicians has reaffirmed its position that so-called “medical assistance in dying” (MAID) should be available to parents seeking to have severely ill newborns euthanized.
The demand comes as Canada’s taxpayer-funded euthanasia system continues to expand, with assisted deaths now accounting for roughly one in every 20 deaths nationwide.
Canada legalized assisted dying in 2016, but eligibility has since been dramatically broadened beyond terminally ill patients.
Now, doctors are pushing the boundary even further by arguing that babies who cannot possibly consent to death should also be eligible.
Doctors Push Euthanasia for Babies
The Quebec College of Physicians first triggered outrage over the proposal in 2022 when Dr. Louis Roy appeared before Parliament’s Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying.
Roy raised the prospect of euthanasia for “babies from birth to one year of age” suffering from severe medical conditions.
He specifically described infants “who are born with severe deformations, very grave and severe medical syndromes, whose life expectancy and level of suffering are such that it would make sense to ensure that they do not suffer.”
The medical organization has now reaffirmed that position.
“The CMQ reiterates that medical assistance in dying may be an appropriate treatment for babies suffering from extreme pain that cannot be relieved and who have severe malformations or serious polysymptomatic syndromes that destroy any prospect of survival,” the Quebec College of Physicians previously told the Daily Mail.
“The CMQ believes that parents should have the opportunity to obtain this care for their infant under these well-defined circumstances.”
The proposal would mark a dramatic departure from Canada’s existing MAID framework because newborn babies cannot consent to being killed.
Parents already have the ability to withdraw or decline extraordinary treatment for babies suffering from devastating medical conditions.
However, euthanasia would involve deliberately administering drugs to accelerate the baby’s death.
