DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin Reveals Ilhan Omar Search Was Only One Part Of A Much Bigger Operation

By

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin just made it clear that the search of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington home was not a one-location operation.

Federal agents served multiple warrants on the same day, Mullin revealed, and investigators now expect to take what he called a “strong case” before a grand jury.

That is a far bigger development than the carefully limited public statements Americans heard when the search first became news.

Here is Mullin describing the broader operation:

Trending Politics reports that Mullin disclosed the additional warrants during an interview with Andrew Kolvet on The Charlie Kirk Show. He said a judge had signed off on the law-enforcement action and that investigators expect to present the matter to a grand jury.

Mullin would not identify the other locations or people involved, leaving the full scope of Monday’s operation under seal. He nevertheless rejected Omar’s accusation that the investigation is politically motivated, saying the administration would not have moved forward without confidence that the case was driven by law enforcement rather than politics.

A search warrant requires investigators to identify evidence they believe will be found and persuade a judge that probable cause exists. A warrant does not establish guilt, and Omar has not been charged with a crime.

“Multiple other warrants” nevertheless confirms that this inquiry reaches beyond a single home and a single collection of records.

Mullin also called the case “strong.” That is unusually blunt language from the Cabinet official overseeing Homeland Security Investigations while a federal criminal inquiry remains active.

CBS News confirms that Omar’s personal cellphone was taken and that multiple relatives received grand-jury subpoenas. The network says the investigation concerns possible fraud in immigration documents connected to Omar’s family and dating to her childhood.

Mullin told the program that HSI has worked with the Justice Department to build the case, but he did not announce charges or say prosecutors have decided to use the federal racketeering statute. His RICO discussion came as a hypothetical about coordinated immigration fraud involving false identities, paperwork, and additional entrants tied to an alleged scheme.

That distinction should not get lost. Mullin was signaling how prosecutors could view an organized, continuing conspiracy; he was not announcing a RICO indictment against Omar.

The investigation appears to include another striking evidentiary trail. A separate NewsNation report said federal agents collected discarded trash in an effort to obtain DNA from Omar and members of her family before the Washington search.

The report said investigators consider potential genetic evidence important to a case that may be broader than the public has assumed:
