The midterm “mandate” is all about revenge.

In the wake of the November 3 midterm elections in which the Republican Party suffered major losses, the emboldened Democrats have already begun making it explicitly clear that their first order of business will be to target Donald Trump and his administration for retribution for perceived crimes, corruption, and abuses of the Constitution and the American people.
The following day, for example, bitter loser Hillary Clinton posted on X:
Last night, Americans made a clear call for accountability and affordability. A body politic cannot recover until its harms have been treated and its wounds have been healed. Crimes against our people and our Constitution must be answered for. The historic abuses of the last two years must be prevented from happening again. … The post-Trump era begins now.
Crimes against our people and our Constitution must be answered for. What she means is, Trump and MAGA Americans have been an unforgiveable obstacle not only to a Hillary presidency – for which she will never forgive us – but also to permanent, one-party Democrat power, and they must be punished. (The “Constitution” part of her statement is purely for show, to maintain the illusion that Democrats respect the Constitution. In actuality, they see it as a “living document” which should be modified or rolled back as needed to accommodate the Left’s lust for power.)
Rep. Robert Garcia, the expected incoming House Oversight Committee chair, also revealed what the Democrats consider this midterm “mandate” to mean when he posted simply “LAWYER UP.” He and his team have framed their agenda as targeting the “Trump Crime Family,” Trump family business dealings, alleged abuses by ICE and DHS, the Epstein files, and related crony issues. Expect a tsunami of forthcoming subpoenas and investigations.
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said, “The massive corruption the country has experienced from the Trump Cartel explains why very little is getting done to help everyday Americans… That changes immediately,” adding that Democrats are “going to hold the crooks accountable.” He has repeatedly tied the midterm win to delivering “accountability.”
In his victory speech after having re-secured his Senate seat for Georgia, Jon Ossoff said, “In sweeping and decisive victories, the American people have rebuked the depravity, corruption, and incompetence of the failed lame duck president, Donald J. Trump.” This continued themes from his campaign that frame the administration as an “Epstein class” and a source of systemic corruption.
Sen. Ron Wyden, the expected incoming Senate Finance Committee chair, stated, “When I am chair, they will be forced to answer to the Senate Finance Committee for their role in hurting the American people and enabling Trump’s corruption.” He also posted the single word “Subpoenas,” outlining probes into banks linked to Epstein, pharmaceutical companies, tax issues, and related matters under an “accountability” agenda. “Trump and Republicans have been running a smash-and-grab job on the American people,” he blathered.
Additional examples include Sen. Chuck Schumer stating, “You have to go after the corruption” and that Democrats would “launch investigations, take him to court and entangle him in legislative razor wire.” Sen. Ed Markey posted on X, “They are going to need to plant new forests for all of the subpoenas we’ll be printing.” Celebrity and longtime Trump hater Rosie O’Donnell crowed, “The Trump regime is over… Let the investigations begin, people. This is a glorious day… We’ve had enough.”
