TEAM CSSA MEDIA RELEASE — 5 SEPTEMBER 2013
CSSA attends High River meeting to seek truth behind RCMP break-ins
“There was no threat and no reason for it:” Tony Bernardo
(High River AB – September 5, 2013) Canada’s shooting sports association is in High River today seeking the truth behind the home invasions executed by local Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers who confiscated hundreds of firearms during the disastrous June flood.
The Canadian Shooting Sports Association and the Canadian Institute for Legislative Action (CSSA/CILA) will be represented by executive director Tony Bernardo at a Town Hall meeting hosted by Danielle Smith, High River MLA and Leader of Alberta’s official opposition party, the Wildrose Party.
“Ms. Smith’s web site says she is convening this meeting to discuss forced entry, home security and property seizure,” explains Bernardo. “I’m pleased that she is calling out the RCMP’s violation of her constituents’ charter rights by conducting a search and seizure without a warrant. The RCMP’s own video betrays their intent by showing police targeting and forcing their way into the homes of firearms owners. Something is rotten in Alberta and we need to know who authorized this witch hunt.
“When a police officer puts on that uniform in the morning, there are specific parameters that come with the job,” adds Bernardo. “The CSSA is proud to have many members who are very capable police officers. Unfortunately, some police officers appear to mistrust responsible firearms owners simply because we enjoy the shooting sports. But, sport shooters are the good guys. If flooding forces us out of our homes, there is no reason to kick in our doors and seize our possessions. There was no threat and no reason for it.”
The Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 5 at 7 p.m. at Highwood High School in High River.
