Child Molesters Now Considered Innocently Normal
Child Molesters Now Considered Innocently Normal by American Psychiatric Association
In recent years, sexual consent laws in many states have changed to allow minors to be sexually involved with adults. Though the Federal requirement is 18, many states require an age of only 16, and this is respected by the Federal Government under States Rights laws.
The reasoning behind many of the changes has been due to “gray areas” in regard to sex with minors, i.e. one partner, perhaps a senior in high school, is 18 years old, while the other partner, perhaps a junior or sophomore in high school is 17 or 16 years old. Under more stringent laws, many young males in the U.S. were being convicted as child molesters for having sex with a mutually consenting girl who may have been only a matter of days younger than they, because when the girl’s parents found out that little Sarah wasn’t quite the angel they thought she was, out of rage, they pressed charges against little Sarah’s high school boyfriend.
However, a new definition in regard to outright pedophilia, issued by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) has gone way beyond anything gray- labeling the act of pedophilia, which most would consider a disturbance, disorder, complete mental illness, and down right crime worthy of a lynching, merely a “sexual interest.”
Many media outlets reported the new definition inaccurately over the weekend, claiming that the APA had redefined pedophilia as a “preference,” but the APA put out this statement to address the issue:
In the case of pedophilic disorder, the diagnostic criteria essentially remained the same as in DSM-IV-TR. Only the disorder name was changed from “pedophilia” to “pedophilic disorder” to maintain consistency with the chapter’s other disorder listings.
“Sexual orientation” is not a term used in the diagnostic criteria for pedophilic disorder and its use in the DSM-5 text discussion is an error and should read “sexual interest.” In fact, APA considers pedophilic disorder a “paraphilia,” not a “sexual orientation.” This error will be corrected in the electronic version of DSM-5 and the next printing of the manual.
APA stands firmly behind efforts to criminally prosecute those who sexually abuse and exploit children and adolescents. We also support continued efforts to develop treatments for those with pedophilic disorder with the goal of preventing future acts of abuse.
You may redefine a duck as a pelican, but we all know it’s still a duck. In an ever evolving P.C. and leftward leaning, softening society, even our children are becoming prey.
