Banning Doorknobs – Rampant Stupidity
Doorknobs have been banned in Vancouver, Canada and many residents are up in arms over the new nanny-state rule.
Starting next March, the city will be requiring the installation of lever handles on all new building doors instead of round doorknobs.
The City Council passed the new code in September in an attempt to make the city more accessible to the disabled and elderly.
The change was part of the council’s ‘age-friendly action plan’. In addition to the door handle requirement, the city has passed similar building requirements such as wider door frames, faucet levers and minimum height standards for electrical outlets to create ‘a more safe, inclusive and engaging city for all seniors’.
With Americans and Canadians living longer, age-related issues are coming to the forefront especially as the Baby Boomer generation enters retirement. According to the CDC, 67 million adult Americans will have arthritis by 2030.

Stupidity
Jeffery Lloyd Doucet, 28, is facing a number of charges, including weapons offences, after a routine traffic stop.
He was pulled over on Sunday for a broken windshield and the RCMP officer soon discovered he was prohibited from driving and had two weapons in the vehicle with him, one a six millimetre revolver. Both he and the passenger, another 30-year-old man, are prohibited from having weapons.
“It’s an odd size,” said Const. Kris Clark, RCMP spokesman, who described it as small enough to fit in the palm of one’s hand.
Doucet faces charges for possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, occupying a vehicle in which there is a firearm, and possession of a firearm contrary to an order restricting him from having weapons. He is also looking at a driving while prohibited charge and driving while his driver’s licence is suspended.
Police say neither Doucet, nor his passenger, are associated with any known gang.

Backpack gun
A prolific offender in Penticton is back in custody but not before putting up a fight — resulting in the injury of a police officer.
Andrew Robert Hardenstine, 33, was arrested last week outside a Roy Avenue apartment complex where police seized guns and drugs.
He was arrested on September 11 shortly after he was witnessed by police carrying a long-barrel firearm in a backpack.
Police say they tried to arrest him after he exited the building, but he put up a fight.
“Police moved in to arrest Hardenstine when he exited the building a short time later when he was seen getting on a white and orange KTM enduro motorcycle parked in a nearby alley,” says Corporal Dan Moskaluk. “Hardenstine attempted to leave the area as RCMP officers moved in to arrest him. Hardenstine attempted to flee and tried to maneuver the motorcycle around an unmarked police car, however he collided with it and was knocked down.”
