Black Mob Targets White Homes, Attacks People, and Burns The American Flag
It looks like the racially-fueled chaos near Ferguson, Missouri is far from over. On Thursday, fresh flames erupted in the city, and protesters chanted for the death of police officer Darren Wilson.
The Shaw neighborhood near St. Louis was hit hardest by the violent protesters. There, mobs vandalized homes, assaulted residents, and attacked police with knives and other weapons.
While most of the hatred and anger remained focused on Darren Wilson, the officer who shot black resident Michael Brown and claimed to have acted in self defense. However, another incident gave the mob of protesters new rage.
On Wednesday, a police officer shot and killed a black teenager named Vonderrit D. Myers. That teenager had a length criminal background, including a felony gun conviction. He was also wearing a criminal monitoring bracelet when the shooting occurred.
The evidence shows that Voderttit Myers fired three shots from a stolen handgun, in an attempt to murder the police officer. It is then that the officer defended himself, and returned fire. However, this evidence appeared to be completely irrelevant to the angry mob, who used the incident as a new reason to lash out.
According to reporters on the scene, the mob of primarily black protesters specifically targeted neighborhoods considered “white” and “wealthy.” Reporters said that the mob knew exactly who they were targeting: “Crowd now marching east on Flora,” tweeted Paul Hampel. “‘This is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in South STL!’ Man shouts on bullhorn.”
USA Today reporter Yamiche Alcindor captured the intensity of the rage with this tweet: “Protesters chanting: ‘Who do you want? DarrenWilson! How do you want him? Dead!’”
At least one reporter was attacked while trying to cover the incident. Valerie Schremp Hahn tweeted this disturbing report: “Some guy asked what I was tweeting and I said nothing. He basically put me in a headlock and asked to get my phone. I said no.”
When not vandalizing homes, threatening to murder, or assaulting reporters, the mob also burned the American flag. People on the scene captured these photos:
