Bloomberg Wastes $50 Million on Anti-NRA Midterm Ads

On November 4, candidates supported by gun control proponent Michael Bloomberg and his various gun control groups fared so badly that one of his groups–Moms Demand Action–is counting the defeat of quasi pro-gun Democrats as a victory.

They are doing this even though those Democrats were beaten by openly pro-Second Amendment Republicans.

On April 16 Breitbart News reported that Bloomberg was spending $50 million this election cycle to defeat the NRA.

The New York Daily News reports Bloomberg spent portions of this money in support of Senator Mark Udall (D-CO), who was defeated by pro-Second Amendment candidate Cory Gardner (R) on November 4. Bloomberg also supported Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC)–she was defeated by pro-Second Amendment candidate Thom Tillis (R). He supported Georgia’s pro-gun control Senate candidate Michelle Nunn (D), but she lost to pro-Second Amendment candidate David Perdue (R).

Bloomberg also supported pro-gun control Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), but she could not garner enough votes to defeat pro-Second Amendment candidate Bill Cassidy (R) outright. So Landrieu is headed for a December 6 run-off, which the NY Daily News predicts she “is likely to lose if Cassidy picks up some support from voters who backed [the third candidate in the race].”

On top of this, Bloomberg gave $2.5 million to the “Senate Majority PAC” to keep Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) in a majority leader position. That $2.5 million missed the mark as well.

Bloomberg and his fellow one-percenters did manage to spend enough to carry Initiative 594 to the victory circle in Washington state. His gun control group, Everytown for Gun Safety, “spent $4 million in the effort.”

Other than this, the highlights were few and far between. So Bloomberg’s Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is pointing to the defeat of quasi pro-gun Senator Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and the apparent defeat of Mark Begich (D-Alaska) as proof of greater success. However, they fail to note that Pryor and Begich faced Republicans who expressed stronger support for the Second Amendment than either defeated Democrat.
