Wynn Resorts Co-Founder Joins Push to Outlaw Private Gun Sales in Nevada

Billionaire and Wynn Resorts co-founder Elaine Wynn has joined Michael Bloomberg’s push to ban private gun sales in the state of Nevada.

For her part, Wynn “will chair an advisory board that is working to pass a background check initiative that recently qualified for the 2016 ballot.”

According to USA Today, the initiative “would impose stricter background checks on people buying firearms from private sellers and at guns shows.” In other words, it would be similar to the gun control Bloomberg helped fund and push through in Washington state under the auspices of I-594 in November.

As with Washington state, the expansion of background checks in Nevada will effectively outlaw–after more than 224 years–the private sale of firearms; Americans have been selling firearms privately since the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791.

In explaining her reasoning for this, Wynn parroted the same verbiage we have heard so often from Gabby Giffords, Mark Kelly, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), and other gun controllers. She said, “Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill isn’t a political issue; it’s common sense.”

She did not address the fact that Jerad and Amanda Miller–the Las Vegas gunman and gunwoman who carried out a heinous crime in June–acquired their guns via background checks. Nor did she address the fact that Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara), Ivan Lopez (Fort Hood 2014), Darion Marcus Aguilar (Maryland mall), Karl Halverson Pierson (Arapahoe High), Paul Ciancia (LAX), Aaron Alexis (DC Navy Yard), James Holmes (Aurora theater), Jared Loughner (Gabby Giffords’ attacker), and Nidal Hasan (Fort Hood 2009) all got their guns via background checks, as well.
