RCMP To Protect Politicians – Gretzky Supports Conservative

The union that represents security guards on Parliament Hill is unhappy with a plan to hand the RCMP control over what will become an integrated security team for the parliamentary precinct.
And a political battle is also brewing over who the Mountie in charge will report to when the plan is in place.
Following the Oct. 22, 2014 attack at the National War Memorial and inside the Centre Block, parliamentarians are set to agree on having one Mountie oversee protection of the grounds and buildings on Parliament Hill. A transition team is set to redraw the security map for the precinct.
Currently, Hill security is a mish-mash of jurisdictions: The RCMP is in charge of security on the grounds. Separate House and Senate security forces – which are being merged – are in charge of securing the inside of the buildings. The Ottawa police remain in charge of the surrounding streets.

Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky waded into Ontario’s Progressive Conservative leadership race on Monday by voicing his support for Barrie MP Patrick Brown.
The hockey legend endorsed Brown as the best person to become the leader of Ontario’s official opposition.
“I have known Patrick Brown for a number of years now,” Gretzky said in a statement. “Hard working and dedicated, Patrick is a strong Conservative. He has the passion and vision to lead Ontario.”
Brown, the only leadership hopeful without a seat in the Ontario legislature, expressed his gratitude for Gretzky’s words.
“I am honoured to have support from Wayne Gretzky, a Canadian icon and one of the greatest athletes of our time,” Brown said in a statement.
