New York Mets Pitcher Released Shortly After Saying He Does Not Support Gun Control

by

The New York Mets have made headlines for two reasons this year, and both of them are kind of odd.

First, the team said they were going with a six-man starting rotation, which is pretty much outlawed in the Majors these days. It ends up killing the bullpen, and starting pitchers don’t care for it very much. What it ultimately does is hurt their chances for total starts at season’s end, thereby not allowing them to throw enough innings to achieve bonuses.

Secondly, the Mets clubhouse donned orange shirts in support of the “Wear Orange” campaign, which is nothing more than a push for gun control.

Shortly afterwards, pitcher Dillon Gee tweeted out this message…

Now, Gee has been designated for assignment by the ball club, meaning he can be “claimed by another team, traded, or out-righted to Triple-A Las Vegas within the next 10 days.”

From Breitbart:

Breitbart News reported on June 2 that the Mets joined with Michael Bloomberg and Piers Morgan for a “Wear Orange” day for gun control. Gee responded to our piece by saying he was duped into wearing the shirt and does not support gun control, Bloomberg, or Morgan.

Gee was just starting to get playing time again after “spending nearly a month on the disabled list with a strained right groin.”

Team manager Terry Collins said Gee needs a lot of pitching right now as part of the recovery from his injury, and the Mets simply cannot give him the time he needs. Collins said, “So we think this is a decision that is going to help him and hopefully us.”

Let’s hope he wasn’t released because of his correct stance on the Second Amendment.

According to Baseball Reference, Gee is 0-3 on the year with a 5.90 ERA through seven started games. He’s given up 55 hits in 39.2 innings, so by any measure, it appears Gee was released based on performance.

Most baseball people seem to be conservative, but it’s a pretty awful day when the higher-ups have their players supporting an unbelievably ridiculous cause.
