Appeal filed against micro-stamping of California guns

Bill would let commanders authorize troops to carry guns on US bases

Defense legislation lawmakers agreed to recently would let commanders authorize troops to carry guns on military bases in the U.S. The annual defense authorization bill calls for Defense Secretary Ashton Carter to establish a process by Dec. 31 in which commanders can authorize a service member at a military installation, reserve center, recruiting location or defense facility in the U.S. to carry a gun on the premises if he or she “determines that carrying such a firearm is necessary as a personal- or force-protection measures.” READ MORE

Why gun laws miss the mark

Here’s a shocker: Criminals get their guns from friends, family or fellow gang members, not traditional legal channels like licensed dealers, according to a new survey of criminals incarcerated at Chicago’s Cook County Jail conducted by researchers from the University of Chicago and Duke University. The survey consisted of interviews with 99 inmates, the vast majority of whom were current or former gang members, who had illegally possessed a firearm within six months prior to their arrests. Heller III ruling and CRPA involvement as amicus

On Friday, Sept. 18, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued its opinion in Heller v. District of Columbia (“Heller III”), striking down four onerous “registration” requirements and upholding several others. The Heller III case is the continuation of the landmark Supreme Court decision confirming that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms and string down D.C.’s total handgun ban and its requirement that long guns be locked or disabled at all times.
