The Robert E. Lee Elementary School in Austin, Texas, is considering changing its name to honor a different historical figure after hundreds of parents recently expressed their distaste for the Confederate general.
The school’s Campus Advisory Committee voted unanimously on March 28 to have the board consider a name change that would reflect more accurately the parents’ wishes and the school’s values, according to KTBC-TV. After the vote, the Austin School Board asked for submissions to be sent in for proper consideration.
…
At the top of the list was “Donald J. Trump Elementary” with 45 votes, according to KXAN. “Robert E. Lee Elementary” came in second with 35 voters asking for it to remain as the school’s name. “Russell Lee Elementary” came in third with 32 votes, “Harper Lee Elementary” came in fourth with 30 nominations and “Elisabet Ney Elementary” came in fifth with 15 nominations.
Other suggestions included “Adolf Hitler School for Friendship and Tolerance,” “Idiocaracy [sic.] Elementary,” “Drew Brees Elementary,” and “John Cena Elementary.”
Oh, and my personal favorite,“Bruce Lee Elementary.”
Hitler Elementary is pretty bad, but at least these people aren’t leaning towards Obama Elementary or Clinton Elementary.
