Donald Trump Chooses New Jersey Governor Christie to Head Transition Team
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump selected New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to serve as his Transition Team chair, the Trump campaign announced in a press release on Monday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The statement noted that Christie appreciated the confidence Trump has in him, and hopes to put together a first-rate team.
“[Chris] Christie is an extremely knowledgeable and loyal person with the tools and resources to put together an unparalleled transition team, one that will be prepared to take over the White House when we win in November,” Trump said in the statement.
Christie ran against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, but endorsed Trump in February after dropping out of the race. Since then, he has frequently appeared with Trump on the campaign trail.Last week, Trump became the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee for the November general election when his remaining rivals, US Senator Ted Cruz and former Ohio Governor John Kasich, dropped out after losing the Indiana primary election to the billionaire businessman.
