Missouri lawmakers passed a bill making The Show-Me State the latest to join the “constitutional carry” club, expanding the state’s doctrine.

According to Fox 2 St. Louis, the Everytown ad claims the legislation “make it easier for violent criminals to carry guns.” And the ad is full of hyperbolic language which tends to frighten citizens into believing the claims. For example, in one place the ad says the legislation “would dismantle Missouri law and let people carry hidden, loaded, guns in public, without a permit or any gun safety training.”

Under the measure, most people could carry concealed guns, even if they haven’t gone through the training now required to get a permit. The legislation also expands the state’s “castle doctrine” by allowing invited guests such as baby sitters to use deadly force against intruders. And it would create a “stand-your-ground” right, meaning people would have no duty to retreat from danger in any place they are legally entitled to be present.
The expansion bill passed in the Missouri House 114-36, and 24-8 in the Senate.
Jay Nixon, Democrat Governor of the state, is expected to veto the bill. However, both chambers could override Nixon’s veto.
So, Missouri may just become the 12th state that doesn’t require a permit for a concealed weapon.
