U.S Non Profits Target Canadian Companies – Trudeau on Pot

Canadian logging company sues Greenpeace for racketeering and defamation
Resolute Forest Products, a Montréal, Quebec-based producer of pulp, paper, and other wood products, has filed a civil RICO suit in a federal district court in Georgia that alleges environmental group Greenpeace and its allies have engaged in a pattern of defamatory and fraudulent behaviors when targeting the company over its forestry practices.

Trudeau on Pot

Trudeau Rules Out Decriminalizing Pot Before Making It Legal

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his government will not decriminalize marijuana before moving to fully legalize the drug next year, even if that means Canadians who smoke pot end up with criminal records in the meantime.

Trudeau was pressed on the issue in question period Wednesday, hours after Health Minister Jane Philpott announced at the United Nations that Liberals will table legislation to legalize pot in spring of 2017.

NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair said “thousands and thousands of Canadians will have criminal records for the rest of their lives” because the Liberals won’t take more immediate action. He mocked that Philpott — “in New York, of all places” — was saying that “maybe” Liberals will present a bill next year.

Legalizing pot in Canada will run afoul of global treaties, Trudeau warned

Trudeau’s plan to legalize, regulate and restrict access to marijuana complicated by treaty obligations

The Liberal government will have to do substantial work on the international stage before it can follow through on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s promise to legalize marijuana, new documents suggest.

Global Warming More Taxes Scam

Alberta NDP carbon-tax legislation worse than thought

There are at least four offences in the Climate Leadership Implementation Act for which Albertans can be sent to jail.

Admittedly, most of these offences involve skipping out on paying the new carbon tax or fraudulently claiming tax rebates. And possible imprisonment for tax evasion or fraud is nothing new.

But there’s also a catch-all clause in Bill 20. Anyone who “contravenes a provision of this Act or the regulations for which a penalty is not otherwise provided,” can go to jail for a month and pay of fine of $1,000. That’s for violating any provision or regulation not dealing with taxes.

The great green carbon tax grab

Touted by economists as a wondrous market mechanism that will deliver Canada from the evils of climate change, carbon pricing is emerging out of the political swamps as a regulatory nightmare. It is also shaping up as the Great Canadian Carbon Tax Grab.

In advance of a first ministers’ meeting next week with Prime Minister Trudeau in Vancouver to begin setting national carbon objectives, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced that – just as consumers are beginning to benefit from lower oil prices – her province’s cap-and-trade version of a carbon tax will add 4.3 cents to the price of a litre of gasoline. Natural gas prices will also go up $60 a year per household.
