Liberal Entitlements: Popularizing Poverty and Dependence Since 1965

“Ahh, the inhumanity!!”

That has been the liberal rallying cry since the 1960’s. With a massive liberal majority in Congress in 1965, Lyndon Johnson implemented his Great Society program. It established Medicare and Medicaid to provide healthcare to disadvantaged groups such as the elderly and the poor while expanding Social Security to include things such as welfare benefits.

This is when the War on Poverty began.

With the onset of Obamacare as the fourth entitlement, opposition to it has been attacked with such gems as “Republicans want you to die quickly,” or that the Republicans were going to “push Granny off the cliff.” Implementing Obamacare was the humane thing to do.

With the three entitlement programs that have been in place since 1965, the question I have is simple – Have they worked? The answer is a resounding no!

There’s no ‘real change’ when it comes to Liberal entitlement culture

So much for doing politics differently. It looks like the Justin Trudeau Liberals are just as entitled to their entitlements as those who came before them.

Canada-EU free trade deal a job killer: study

A free trade deal between Canada and the European Union would cost tens of thousands of workers their jobs, according to a new study.

The study — by CAW chief economist Jim Stanford — was released Wednesday by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
Stanford ran three simulations to see what a Canada-EU free trade deal would mean to the Canadian economy, and in every case Canada’s bilateral trade deficit with the EU would worsen.

In the best-case scenario — one in which tariffs are mutually eliminated — Stanford foresees the loss of 28,000 jobs.

In the worst-case simulation — one in which tariff elimination takes place along with a further appreciation of the Canadian dollar versus the euro — the job losses could top 150,000.

Trump vows to reopen, or toss, NAFTA pact with Canada and Mexico

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to force Canada and Mexico to renegotiate the NAFTA trade agreement with the United States if elected, as part of an effort to protect and restore American jobs.

Trump criticized the North American Free Trade Agreement as a U.S. job killer, saying he would be willing to scrap the pact if Canada and Mexico were unwilling to budge. He also tried to link Democratic rival Hillary Clinton to the deal on the eve of a meeting in Ottawa of the “three amigos,” the leaders of the three NAFTA signatories: the United States, Mexico and Canada.
