Christian Preacher Thrown in Jail for Quoting Bible Verse to Gay Teen
A Christian preacher was charged with a hate crime and thrown in jail for quoting the Bible in the Scottish town of Irvine in North Ayrshire.
Gordon Larmour, 42, spent a night in jail after he reportedly told a 19-year-old homosexual man about the story of Adam and Eve.
The incident happened last July when Larmour was handing out leaflets and a group of young men passed him
One of the men asked Larmour what God thought about homosexuality, and the preacher referred to the Book of Genesis in the Bible, telling him that God created Adam and Eve to produce children.
The man who asked the question began to argue with Larmour, which resulted in Larmour being chased, Catholic.org reported.
The U.K. Telegraph reported that within minutes Larmour was apprehended and placed in a police van. He was accused of abusive behavior “aggravated by prejudice relating to sexual orientation” even though he did not swear or use any form of offensive language.
Larmour said the incident didn’t make sense to him.
“I can’t see why I was arrested in the first place. It was a massive overreaction and a waste of everyone’s time. The police didn’t listen to me. They took the young homosexual guy’s side straight away and read me my rights,” he told The Telegraph.
Breitbart reported that in court last month Sheriff Alistair Watson agreed with Larmour, acquitting him of any charges.
“I feel they try so hard to appear like they are protecting minorities, they go too far the other way. I want to be able to tell people the good word of the Gospel and think I should be free to do so. I wasn’t speaking my opinions; I was quoting from the Bible,” Larmour added.
Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Center, said the outcome was reassuring.
“It is a great relief that the judge ruled in favor of Gordon, because the case simply did not stand up to scrutiny.”
It is a relief that the charges against Larmour were dropped, but they indicate a growing assault on Christianity that we cannot allow to happen. Now, more than ever, Christians must stand strong in their faith and not allow progressives to get away with removing our First Amendment rights.
