Viewer Spots Cylinder Appear Out of Thin Air Near ISS

Space is fascinating, primarily because of the unknown, and you can bet if something unknown, inexplicable or unrecognizable from outer space gets caught on video, it’s going to cause a little bit of news.

That is even more true if that unknown something happens to be anywhere near the International Space Station. Footage from cameras located on the ISS taken on April 19 showed a strange cylindrical object coming into view outside the station’s window.

The blurry object seems to appear from out of nowhere, then moves closer to the station before fading away.

Teacher and ufologist Scott Waring, who runs the website UFO Sightings Daily, uploaded the footage and offered his opinion on what he saw.

“I noticed a UFO in the distance that was coming closer and closer to the space station. The UFO was partially cloaked, which made it look transparent,” he said, according to the U.K. Mirror.

“In the deep blackness of spaces, blending into the environment means you will be safer from other alien species that may not be friendly,” he said of the object’s shape and design.

That’s … certainly one theory.

Others speculated that the object was nothing more than lens flare.
Some believed that the object could be space junk, as there are literally hundreds and thousands of pieces of space junk in space, raging from 3 to 30 feet long, according to Fox News. In fact, there’s so much junk floating in space that experts are concerned that the pieces could start colliding with one another to create even more junk.

With that much junk in space, it doesn’t seem unreasonable that a piece of it might have floated by the ISS. This wasn’t the first time observers have noticed something strange happening outside the ISS, and it probably won’t be the last.

As for the object, NASA didn’t immediately release a statement.

Take from that what you will.
