Judge Sets Refugee Who Sexually Assaulted 8 Women and Girls Free Because “He Wasn’t Used To Bikinis”
A refugee from the Middle East has managed to escape any serious punishment after sexually assaulting numerous young women. The suspect’s defense is simple but appalling: His grotesque actions are permitted in his culture.
According to the Herald Sun in Melbourne, Australia, a teenager who came to Australia from Afghanistan groped eight women at the popular Surfers Paradise beach. The age of his victims ranged from 15 to 24.
“Prosecutor Nicholas McGhee told the court the assaults variously included the boy touching his victims’ buttocks, genitalia and breasts, sometimes under their bikinis,” the Herald Sun.
The defendant’s age and identity could not be confirmed by the court due to incomplete immigration records, but Yahoo! News reported he is from Afghanistan. He pleaded guilty to the repeat sexual assaults.
Shockingly, the judge in the case admitted that the teen committed serious offenses, yet let the suspect off with a slap on the wrist. Instead of jail time or deportation, the offender received mild probation and a mandatory sexual awareness course.
“Judge Kent ordered the boy to undergo a ‘positive sexuality’ course as part of his probation,” the Herald Sun explained. The court also found that “his immersion in a new culture partially explained his actions.”
You read that right: The judge has accepted “immersion in a new culture” as a valid defense for sexually assaulting young women in bikinis.
The teenager’s home country is 99.7 percent Muslim. It is true that the sands of Afghanistan and the sands of an Australian beach are a bit different, however “don’t sexually assault women” shouldn’t need to be printed on the travel brochure.
This bizarre defense brings up several troubling questions. Where is the line? Can any refugees from a repressed country now claim that “immersion in a new culture” was the reason they raped a woman in a nightclub or stabbed someone on the street for violating their religion?
The entire point of sovereign countries with clear borders is that a foreign country’s backwards laws do not apply there. This case illustrates the core problem with unchecked immigration: Not all cultures are the same, and some are indeed stuck in the Dark Ages.
It shouldn’t take the assault of eight young women before that obvious fact becomes clear.
