Evacuations in South Kelowna after condo complex burns down
A six-storey condo complex under construction in South Kelowna caught on fire Saturday, prompting evacuations in the area.
The blaze began at approximately 11:30 a.m., according to Central Okanagan Emergency Operations. The building, at the corner of Truswell and Capozzi roads, was uninhabited.
The majority of the complex has collapsed, but not before the fire spread to adjacent structures, including The Waters Edge and the Walnut Grove Motel. Both have been evacuated, along with Charles M. Suites and nine single family waterfront homes in the area. In total, 176 units on Truswell Road and Capozzi Road have been affected by the evacuation order. Power and gas have been turned off in the area.
