Newsweek Criticizes Trump Women For ‘Normalizing’ High Heels

If Chelsea Manning or Michelle Obama were wearing them, Newsweek would be calling it “Fabulous!”

by Mark Tapson

After eight years of the media gushing about Michelle Obama’s fashions, which included such atrocities as this,
Newsweek magazine now complains that the Trump women Melania, Ivana, and Ivanka are “normalizing” high heels — as if that were a bad thing.
With the possible exception of Jackie Kennedy, the White House has never seen stunning glamour the likes of which Melania and Ivanka bring on a daily basis. Say what you will about the President himself or his policies or tweets or haircut or neckties, only the jealous and bitter would find something to criticize about the style of the First Lady and Daughter.
That brings us to Newsweek which, you may remember, sold for exactly $1 in 2010 to a stereo equipment mogul. Desperately grasping for anything with which to put down the Trumps, Newsweek published an actual article titled, “Melania, Ivanka and Ivana Trump Wear High Heels, a Symbol of Everything That Is Beautiful and Horrifying About Them.” Horrifying.
The article begins by complaining about “the ubiquitous stiletto pump” which Newsweek laughably claims is “not currently in fashion, but for Ivana, Ivanka, Melania and the Trump daughters-in-law, Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe of choice never went out of style.” The sneering and sniffing continue from there.
“Six months in, and the Trump women are well on their way to normalizing the footwear of the beauty pageant.” Gasp! Forget North Korea — this is a catastrophe in the making!
Newsweek asked former Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley about the physical demands of high heels. “As you get older in these shoes, your feet are going to have problems,” Talley says. “I am not gonna say Melania is gonna have them soon, but sooner or later she is going have to come down off that high arch.”
And sooner or late, Newsweek is going to have to accept that Donald Trump is President and Melania rocks high heels. Besides, isn’t it supposed to be sexist to tell women what they can or can’t wear? Isn’t it slut-shaming or something to tell women they aren’t allowed to be sexy?

Newsweek even consulted a psychologist and an anthropologist to tell us why Melania and Ivana wear high heels: they “just exaggerate the femaleness of the walk. So to deconstruct why Trump women wear high heels: They are just buying into traditional binary views of male and female.”

And that’s bad, because we all know that the traditional binary views of male and female are not currently in fashion.

The anthropologist made sure to note that, “When women wear high heels at work, they send sexual signals that should be avoided if they want to be taken seriously.” Ivanka is a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. She can’t be taken seriously wearing this?

Newsweek makes sure to point out that “shoe historians say the first women to wear heels were Italian prostitutes” and then to claim with contempt that high heels “signal the taut combination of power and weakness that conservative women must cultivate in order to survive among ideologues who are crafting our tax-free ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ future.”

Here’s a tip, Newsweek: you already had no credibility, but tossing in a non-ironic reference to The Handmaid’s Tale automatically discredits anyone from being taken seriously.
The bottom line is that the left hate the Trumps, they hate conservative women, and they hate “traditional binary views of male and female.” Chelsea Manning is more their style:
