For anyone foolish enough to believe that Facebook has no political axe to grind, as founder Mark Zuckerberg consistently protests, here’s a nugget of information that will disabuse the gullible person of that notion.
Wikileaks released a January 2, 2016 email from Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, replying to Hillary Clinton’s then-campaign chairman John Podesta, in which she wrote, “I am thrilled at the progress Hillary is making. Thank you for the kind thoughts. No one was more excited for this year to END than me! Onward to a new year and hopefully health and happiness for you and your family.”
In 2016, accused of censoring conservative topics, Zuckerberg responded, “Facebook stands for giving everyone a voice. We believe the world is better when people from different backgrounds and with different ideas all have the power to share their thoughts and experiences.”
As Rob Bluey, the Heritage Foundation’s vice president of publishing, said in May 2016, there was a “perception among conservatives that Facebook is a liberal organization that conservatives can’t trust.” David Bozell, son of Brent Bozell and executive director of online activist organization ForAmerica, added, “Facebook has a serious problem. Trust is everything and now conservatives don’t trust them.”
