Canada’s Bizarre Political System

What is Canada’s political system?

In Canada, there are 3 levels of government. Each level of government has different responsibilities.
Federal government (the Government of Canada) – Responsible for things that affect the whole country, such as citizenship and immigration, national defence and trade with other countries.
Provincial and territorial governments (for example, the Province of Ontario) – Responsible for things such as education, health care and highways.
Municipal (local) governments (cities, towns, and villages in Ontario) – Responsible for firefighting, city streets and other local matters. If there is no local government, the province provides services.

Trudeau abandons pledge to reform Canada’s elections

Wednesday’s move was called a “betrayal” by the NDP, who accused Justin Trudeau of lying to progressive voters when he made electoral reform a central promise in the 2015 election.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau abandoned his promise to reform Canada’s electoral system on Wednesday, claiming no consensus has been found on an alternative system.

Only two months after recommitting to electoral reform, Trudeau told newly appointed Democratic Institutions Minister Karina Gould that replacing the first-past-the-post system was no longer on the table.

“Rather than keep his word to the millions of Canadians who voted for him and the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who engaged in good faith … over this question of how to strengthen and broaden our democracy, Mr. Trudeau chose today instead to spit in their face,” New Democrat MP Nathan Cullen told reporters.

Trudeau Unfit To Lead

Canadians Didn’t Sign Up For Trudeau’s Scandals And Bad Policies

Trudeau’s actions in government have not lived up to expectations, and Canadians are taking notice. A recent poll has shown the Liberal government’s approval rating dropping a staggering nine points to 42 per cent, from a November poll which had Liberal support at 51 per cent.

Trudeau, once elected, released a document titled Open and Accountable Government, which detailed the ways in which the Liberal government would operate and maintain transparency. Trudeau is quoted in a news release as saying “We will uphold the highest standards of integrity and impartiality both in our public and private affairs.”

Trudeau by the numbers: They’re bad

Canadians cannot rely on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for even remotely accurate information about the state of federal finances.

His wildly inconsistent and contradictory statements about government deficits before, during and after the 2015 election illustrate the point.

In 2014, Trudeau made his infamous observation that budgets balance themselves, before repeatedly assuring Canadians in the run-up to the 2015 election his government would run balanced budgets

‘Everything is wrong with the PM, except his looks’: Brazilian magazine hits out at ‘narcissistic’ Justin Trudeau

‘Trudeau is an incarnation of confusingly well-intentioned, vaguely leftist liberalism, a pretty face that shamelessly shows off his physique and poses for photos in yoga poses’

A national Brazilian magazine columnist published a scorching review of Justin Trudeau, ripping the prime minister for being “cute, but highly ordinary,” shamelessly showing off his physique and continuing to support the Muslim community.

The review, written by international affairs columnist Vilma Gryzinski, was published in the far-right magazine Veja. The magazine has earned a reputation for hitting out at Brazil President Dilma Rousseff and campaigning for her impeachment, after allegations that she misused federal funds.

The world needs to stop mindlessly fawning over Justin Trudeau

For a second, it almost seemed as though Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau might be capable of getting a sentence or two of bad press in the United States.

Luckily, Rolling Stone was able to rush to his rescue this week, with a fawning cover story by Stephen Rodrick musing wistfully about “a nation led by a man who wore a ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ T-shirt on national television, rides a unicycle and welcomed 40,000 Syrian refugees with open arms.”
