NAFTA’s saga so far: A guide to trade, the talks and Trump

•The Trump administration is threatening new tariffs that could devastate Canada’s auto sector, while the NAFTA negotiators’ standoff over auto manufacturing threatens to drag on the talks even further.

Trump-proposed tariffs would cripple Ontario’s auto industry, says Cross-Border Institute
‘I think it’s probably the most outrageous trade action that’s ever been taken by the Trump administration’

Donald Trump is considering imposing tariffs of up to 25 per cent on all vehicles imported into the United States — a decision being referred to as “the most outrageous trade action that’s ever been taken by the Trump administration.”

The Trump administration said Wednesday it had launched a national security investigation into car and truck imports that could lead to new U.S. tariffs similar to those recently imposed on imported steel and aluminum.

Trump says Canada, Mexico ‘spoiled’ and ‘very difficult to deal with’, but auto industry will be happy with NAFTA

‘I will tell you in the end we win, we will win and will win big’

President Donald Trump predicted Wednesday that U.S. automakers and auto workers would be “very happy” with the outcome of talks over the North American Free Trade Agreement, which have stalled amid a dispute over rules for car production.

Trump told reporters on the South Lawn that “you’ll be seeing very soon what I’m talking about,” noting that both Mexico and Canada have been “very difficult to deal with” during the negotiations.
