A group of Tommy Robinson supporters has blocked off a major road in central London in a tense stand-off with police, who made several arrests.
Hundreds of demonstrators descended on the capital and blocked off the road around Trafalgar Square.
Rows of riot police blocked the gate down the Mall leading to Buckingham Palace, where the Royal Family has gathered on the balcony after celebrating Trooping the Colour just hours earlier.
The protest on Saturday afternoon was the latest in what appears to be a bid to secure the release from jail of the former leader of the English Defence League (EDL).

Much debate has erupted regarding the recent jailing of British activist Tommy Robinson. This case is telling, not only in regard to the current culture in Britain, but also in regard to the culture in the United States, where many people are unaware of the principles that morally govern the situation.
On May 25, 2018, Robinson was arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced to thirteen months in prison. He was arrested reportedly for “breaching the peace” by livestreaming outside the Leeds Crown Court, where a trial is underway in which twenty-seven Muslim men and two Muslim women are alleged to have raped, trafficked, drugged, and sexually exploited more than one hundred girls as young as eleven years old.
Elizabeth May pleads guilty to criminal contempt for role in Kinder Morgan protest
Green party Leader Elizabeth May has pleaded guilty to a criminal contempt of court charge at a Kinder Morgan work site in Burnaby, B.C.
The federal Green Party leader was arrested in March for violating an injunction at Kinder Morgan’s Burnaby Mountain facility.
May and MP Kennedy Stewart were among dozens of people who were arrested on March 23 for coming within five metres of Kinder Morgan’s site where it is working on the pipeline expansion.

April Ryan comes under fire for saying Melania Trump is ‘not culturally American
CNN commentator April Ryan is under fire after she said Melania Trump was not ‘culturally American’ while commenting on the First Lady’s ‘Be Best’ campaign.
Ryan and CNN’s Erin Burnett were discussing Melania’s new anti-cyberbullying campaign when she made the controversial comment.
‘This is a First Lady who is not culturally American, but she is learning the ways,’ Ryan told Burnett.
‘This is not just an American issue. These are not just American issues. These are international issues. Cyberbullying is an international issue.’
CNN contributor April Ryan is being criticized for alerting her 336,000 Twitter followers to a story in The Root that asks if the Trump administration is involved in child sex-trafficking.
Among those condemning Ryan for the tweet is first lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman.
“If you’re a journalist w many followers & a @CNNPolitics contributor…is it ok to retweet any headline you want, regardless of if it’s true?” Stephanie Grisham asked on Twitter. “Remember: ‘The core purpose of a journalist is to research, document, write, & present the news in an honest, ethical, & unbiased way.’”
