Democrats Interrupt Kavanaugh Hearings Nearly 60 Times In The First 60 Minutes

By Emily Zanotti

The nominee waited nearly an hour to introduce himself.

Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee clearly have no desire to see Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings proceed in a professional manner; before the man even introduced himself at Tuesday morning’s kickoff, Democrats had managed to interrupt proceedings more than 40 times, move for adjournment, harass each other, and encourage protests, apparently all part of a Sen. Chuck Schumer-organized “demonstration.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-NE), the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, tried to get the meeting off to a quick start, but was interrupted within the first minute by Democrats suggesting the meeting be adjourned so that they could study several thousand Kavanaugh-related documents released Tuesday morning.

When that measure failed, they took to simply shouting, sometimes over each other.

The main culprits are, of course, prospective 2020 Presidential candidates Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA), and Cory Booker (D-NJ), both of whom released fundraising emails to coincide with their “sudden” and “off the cuff” opposition to the nomination process.

Soon, other senators joined the fracas, racking up an astounding 44 interruptions in just under 40 minutes.

By the time the first hour had passed, Democrats had interrupted Grassley — and Kavanaugh, himself, who barely got to make an introduction before being derailed — more than 50 times.

The interruptions were all reportedly part of a plan, concocted by Senate Minority Leader Schumer (D-NY), to … well, the why doesn’t seem entirely clear.

No Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are seriously considering voting for Kavanaugh just ahead of mid-term elections — not that they’d need to, since there are more than enough votes to pass Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Senate floor. So mostly, it seems, Schumer and his ilk were making a point for the cameras, not unlike the protesters who gathered outside the Senate hearing room dressed as Handmaids.
