Great-Grandmother Texas Mayor Kills Massive Gator To Avenge Mini-Horse’s Death

Don’t mess with Texas, or specifically, Texan great-grandmothers and their mini-horses.

The mayor of Livingston, Texas, a 73-year-old great grandmother, grabbed her shotgun on Sunday night and executed a massive gator she’d been “looking for” since the animal apparently snatched up one of her miniature horses years ago.

Mayor Judy B. Cochran killed the 12-foot, 580-pound gator with a single shot, reports Chron.

“We think this is the gator that ate one of our miniature horses several years ago, as big as this gator was, he could’ve easily eaten it,” she said. “Typically the gators don’t bother us, but we’ve been looking for (this one).”

As if this story could not get anymore Texas than it already is, Cochran indicated that she’ll make full use of her kill, including a trophy of the gator’s head to be mounted in her office, some tasty meals to come from its meat, and homemade boots.

“Moye Taxidermy will be processing it,” she announced, “we’ll eat the meat, have the head mounted and have the ridgeback part of the tail in my office. We’ll have the hide tanned to make some boots out of it, you can only make boots from the belly.”

The alleged mini-horse-killing gator was shot outside Cochran’s ranch in Goodrich, Texas, at the same pond her 5-year-old grandson killed a gator in 2009.

“There are a lot of requirements to kill a gator in Polk County,” the mayor explained. “We’re one of 12 counties that has a hunting season for alligators, between Sept. 10 and 30. You have to have a permit and tags from a wildlife biologist, and you have to catch it on a hook first. We don’t just go to the ranch and hunt a gator.”

The newly elected gator-killing mayor is affectionately known as Nana to her grandchildren; she recently became a great-grandmother.
