Donald Trump Jr. jabs at Florida Democrats with Thanksgiving message: ‘Recount’ your blessings

Donald Trump Jr. shared a cheeky, politically-themed Thanksgiving message Thursday as he encouraged his followers to express gratitude over the holiday weekend.

“As we rapidly approach Thanksgiving, count your blessings,” Trump Jr. wrote Thursday in an Instagram post. “If you live in Florida, recount them.”

Most of the first family has assembled at Mar-a-Lago, a Trump property in Palm Beach, Fla. They are expected to enjoy dinner at the luxury resort Thursday night.

Trump Jr.’s post follows a divisive campaign season in the Sunshine State, in which three races contested as part of the 2018 midterm election cycle required machine and hand recounts.

Republican Sen.-elect Rick Scott last week officially defeated Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, while Republican Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis beat Andrew Gillum, his Democratic opponent, after a protracted political and legal fight over the results from the Nov. 6 elections.

Agriculture commissioner-elect Nicole “Nikki” Fried is set to become Florida’s only Democrat to serve in a statewide office following her victory over state Rep. Matt Caldwell to head the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

President Trump also spent Thanksgiving calling U.S. troops abroad from Mar-a-Lago, visiting service members of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Lake Worth Inlet station in Riviera Beach, Fla., and playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
