Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t believe it’s important to be FACTUALLY correct on issues

For a congresswoman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is turning out to be a pretty good dancer. And a pretty good Democratic Socialist.

While she and many in her party have lashed out at POTUS Donald Trump for alleged untruths and fudging of facts, Ocasio-Cortez admitted during a “60 Minutes” interview on Sunday with Anderson Cooper that it’s much more important to be “morally right” than factually correct.

“One of the criticisms of you is that your math is fuzzy,” Cooper said in regards to factual errors she has made in previous claims, something she dismissed as “missing the forest for the trees.”

Specifically, Cooper mentioned the Washington Post‘s “Four-Pinocchio” rating of Ocasio-Cortez’s claim that $21 trillion in Pentagon “accounting errors” could fund two-thirds of her quest and the quest of other Leftist Democrats to implement “Medicare-for-all” universal healthcare run and financed by the government.

“Oh my goodness,” she said. “If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they’re missing the forest for the trees.

“I think that there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct, than about being morally right,” she added.

“But being factually correct is important,” Cooper said.

“It’s absolutely important,” she said. “And, whenever I make a mistake, I say, ‘OK, this was clumsy,’ and then I restate what my point was. But it’s not the same thing as the president lying about immigrants. It’s not the same thing at all.”

Watch:

First, the president has been honest about what he wants to do in terms of border security, defining which people can immigrate to the U.S., changing our asylum laws, and limiting the number of people coming into the country from terrorist-sponsoring nations. In fact, you could say his brutal honesty is what has earned him repeated accusations of being a racist bigot from Left-wing Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez.

Secondly, where is it written that the Left gets to define what is “morally right” in our country? Americans as a group have differing views on what they regard as “morally correct.” There isn’t one political party or political ideology that gets to decide these issues for all of us, though as Ocasio-Cortez proves, Leftists assume they have been given that mantle of responsibility.

Tens of millions of Americans, for instance, believe it’s morally wrong for one party — Democrats — to shield and protect people who are in our country illegally, even as some of those people commit crimes including murder against American citizens.

They also believe that POTUS Trump is not only legally obligated to secure our borders but morally obligated as well.

In addition, they see massive government and high taxes as an immoral imposition on the founding fathers’ visions of limited government and maximum freedom.

As an elected official, it is incumbent upon Ocasio-Cortez to be factual when she proposes legislation and stumps for its passage.

You could even say she has a moral obligation to do that. — Jon Dougherty
