State of the Union – TSA Finds Record Number of Guns

Donald Trump Approval Rating at 52 Percent; 9-Point Jump in 10 Days

President Donald Trump received an approval rating jump in the week following his State of the Union address.

Rasmussen reports that the president’s approval rating is now at 52 percent, a nine-point jump in just ten days.

Trump’s approval rating hit a low of 43 percent at the end of January, but strong jobs numbers released in February and a successful State of the Union address appear to have had an effect on his approval numbers.

Democrats Reveal Priorities in SOTU Invitees: Transgender, Illegal Immigrants, Gun Control

The Democrats in Congress are using their invited guests to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday to send a message about their priorities for this legislative session, including transgenders serving in the military, illegal immigration and gun control.

Politico, the Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report, and CNN reported on lawmakers and who they invited.

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) invited mother and daughter Albertina Contreras Teletor and Yakelin Garcia Contreras, who were allegedly separated at the southern border with Mexico while trying to enter the United States.

TSA Finds Record Number Of Guns Carried By Travelers At Airports

Many travelers heading to U.S. airports are apparently unaware that it’s illegal to carry a firearm through carry-on baggage security checkpoints.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Thursday that it found 4,239 firearms in carry-on bags last year — the largest number in the agency’s history.

That’s a 7% increase over the 3,957 firearms TSA discovered in 2017, and it means an average of about 12 firearms were found each day in 2018.

New Restrictions on Ammunition Sales to Take Effect in California

New restrictions will go into effect next month regarding buying, selling and transporting ammunition in California.

A law enacted in 2016 has several provisions related to the purchase of ammunition that will take effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

Proposition 63 requires anyone selling ammunition to have a license from the Department of Justice. Ammunition purchased over the internet must go through a licensed ammunition vendor.

California gun owners brace for shortages, price hikes under new ammo regs

Matt Ball isn’t the type of gun enthusiast who hoards ammunition – at least not normally.

Ball, a 39-year-old banker from Roseville, is a casual shooter who spends a few days a year at the target range. Typically, when he’s running low on ammo, he swings by a local sporting-goods store and buys what he needs, or he orders online.

But like thousands of other hunters and target shooters in California, Ball has been stocking up in advance of a host of new state gun laws, set to take effect this year and next, that include ammunition regulations that are among the most stringent in the nation.

“I’ve definitely been picking up a little more than I typically would,” Ball said. “I do worry about – not so much about supply but prices. The fact California has these extra rules in place, what’s that going to be like?”
