in World News Treasury Denies Dem Trump Taxes Demand, ‘Serious Issues Concerning Scope of Congressional Investigative Authority’
The Treasury Department will not turn over Trump’s tax returns by the Wednesday deadline set by Chairman Richard Neal on the Ways and Means Committee.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said Wednesday evening that he will consult with the DOJ on the request.
“The Committee’s request raises serious issues concerning constitutional scope of Congressional investigative authority” Mnuchin said in his letter to Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA).
The Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA), sent a letter to the IRS last Wednesday demanding President Trump’s tax returns for 2013 through 2018 as well as for several of Trump’s businesses.
“Is that all?” Trump said to a reporter last Wednesday who brought up the Dems request for the last 6 years of his tax returns. Trump said that the Democrats are giving up because they usually ask for the last 10 years of his tax returns.
