A South Carolina man said he got more than he bargained for when he ordered a tea from a nearby McDonald’s and ended up getting high for the first time in his life.
Parrish Brown asked for extra lemon in his sweet tea at a Hilton Head McDonald’s, something he said he now believes was code for needing a little cannabis in your cup.
“I have never had weed a day in my life, so immediately after I started drinking it, I started to feel weird and it didn’t taste like something I recognized,” Brown said. The strange feeling intensified the more he drank, finally prompting Brown to look inside the cup, where he said he found three bags of marijuana. He suspects he might have punctured one or more of the bags accidentally with a straw, releasing the weed into his drink.
“Well, I was high and panicking and at work, so I called my dad,” Brown said. “I didn’t want to get in trouble for this.”
His father told him he should let his manager know what happened and then call police. “And then, it gets worse,” Brown said. “I called dispatch and the woman yelled like, ‘WHAT!? Call 911!’ And I was like, ‘Ma’am, you are 911.’ She couldn’t believe it.”
Once police arrived, Brown said they confirmed that there was marijuana in his cup. “The officer asked me why I drank it and I was like, ‘Well, I was thirsty!’ ”
While police are still investigating the incident, Brown said there were no extra charges on his McDonald’s receipt and his 10 pack of chicken McNuggets and double cheeseburger tasted like they always do.
