Oh, HELL no: Fauci suggests Americans should ‘carry immunity papers’ to ‘prove’ they are virus-free

By Jon Dougherty @TheNatSent

(TNS) You know, we’ve been trying to cut Dr. Anthony Fauci a little slack with all of this coronavirus doom-and-gloom because it appears as though President Donald Trump trusts him.

But our patience with the president’s lead virus task force health official just ran out.

Fauci appeared on CNN’s “New Day” Friday — despite reports that the task force leader, Vice President Mike Pence, was banning appearances on that network — and was spoon-fed a loaded question from co-host Alisyn Camerota, who obviously would look much better wearing an “SS” uniform.

She asked Fauci if he could “imagine a time where Americans carry certificates of immunity” — as in, ‘Show me your papers, please,’ a la Nazi Germany or the former Soviet Union.

Fauci thinks that’s certainly doable.

“You know, that’s possible. It’s one of those things that we talk about when we want to make sure that we know who the vulnerable people are and not — this is something that’s being discussed. I think it might actually have some merit under certain circumstances,” he said.

He claimed this hideous notion may be necessary because the U.S. is such a big place.

“If you go now to the United States, we’re a big country and there are different patterns. Remember weeks ago, the hardest-hit part was in Washington State. And that was a cluster of nursing homes, extended care homes,” he said.

Fauci has been slowly working up to this kind of nonsensical infringement on our right to freely travel and transit our country — without fear of being harassed by police or worse if we don’t have ‘our papers.’

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said life in America, post-coronavirus, may never get “back to normal.”

“If back to normal means acting like there was never a coronavirus problem, I don’t think that’s going to happen until we do have a situation where you can completely protect the population,” he said.

Not just no, but hell no. This guy’s dangerous.

Not only has he been completely wrong about the infection and death rates due to this otherwise typical virus but now he’s trying to sell more fear and loathing with the notion that Americans should not be permitted to travel about our own country without government permission in the form of ‘immunity papers.’

And if what he says is true — that this incredibly bad idea is being bandied about by the administration — then we need to ensure President Trump understands we’re not at all on board with this.

While it’s all but certain such a policy would be challenged in court, what’s less certain is the outcome of said challenges.

Yes, the Constitution makes clear our right to travel freely is both enumerated and implied. But what about a perpetual ‘coronavirus national emergency’ declaration?

This is a lousy idea and it’s coming from a government official who has just worn out his welcome.
