New California AG Once Tried to Allow Communists to Work in State Govt

Rob Bonta, who assumed office as California attorney general on Wednesday on the appointment of Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom, attempted to make it legal for members of the Communist Party to work in state government while he was a member of the State Assembly.

The bill, AB 22, barely passed the Assembly in 2017, as reported at the time by KQED.

San Diego public school teachers to give migrant kids in-person instruction before their own students

Teachers from San Diego Unified School District are teaching migrant children in person before their own students, Fox News has learned.

SDUSD students are currently learning in an online-only format and are expected to move into a hybrid model on April 12, where they will be learning in a combination of in-person and online formats, according to the school district’s website.

“We have 130,000 kids who haven’t been allowed in a classroom for over a year in the San Diego Unified School District. It’s great that there’s in-person learning for those unaccompanied minors from Central America, but I wish every child in San Diego County was allowed the same opportunity for in-person teaching,” San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond told Fox News.

Calgary MLA pitches bill to make rodeo the official sport of Alberta

Muhammad Yaseen, the UCP MLA for Calgary-North, introduced a private members’ bill to recognize rodeo as Alberta’s official sport.

“Rodeo is an important thread in the rich cultural fabric of our province,” Yaseen told a legislative committee Monday.

He said rodeo communities across the province have been devastated by event cancellations caused by COVID-19 and the designation would provide a much-needed boost.

“I was deeply saddened that the iconic Calgary Stampede had to be cancelled last year,” Yaseen said.

“This bill will be a beacon of hope for Albertans as we make our way through another challenging year.”

Some political pundits question the timing of the proposal, with the bill coming days after a deficit budget and during a pandemic.
