116 complaints about foreign interference were dismissed in Canada’s last two elections: gov’t memo

According to an internal briefing note, the Office of Elections Commissioner Caroline Simard dismissed a whopping 100 allegations of foreign interference in the 2019 election alone.

(LifeSiteNews) –– During the last two federal elections, a total of 116 tips made by people concerning potential foreign election interference were dismissed outright by Canada’s Office of Elections Commissioner Caroline Simard, according to an internal briefing note.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, a November 1, 2022 briefing note written by Simard’s staff shows that she chose not to investigate the tips because the investigations were “difficult” to carry out.

The briefing note stated that foreign components in investigations “almost always give rise to delays, complexities and other challenges.”

Because of this, a “significant amount of time and resources will often be required simply to obtain the evidence located outside Canada.”

“If evidence is under the jurisdiction of a country with which Canada does not have cooperation agreements it may even be impossible to acquire the evidence,” read the note.

In total, the Commissioner’s office got 16 allegations of election interference during the 2021 election campaign season, but all of them were dismissed and the files were “closed.”

During the 2019 federal election campaign, there were a total of 158 complaints made, with 100 of them being dismissed. There was no explanation as to what happened to the other 58 complaints.

The briefing note claimed that undercovering election fraud committed at the hands of foreign agents was not easy.

“Investigations into foreign interference will inevitably continue to raise difficult issues,” stated the note.
