The Dangers of Democrats’ Populism
by mike4maga
With the 2024 presidential election just days away, both the campaigns have reached their climax. Having focused most of their attention on battleground states, primarily Pennsylvania and North Carolina, the candidates try to win over the leaning and undecided voters. At such a pivotal moment for our nation, some of the final statements seem to serve not for ballot means, but to generate further division and hatred between the two parties’ supporters.
The Forgotten Source of Hatred
Earlier this year, in July, after a failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, PA, many commentators raised concerns over not only certain U.S. government bodies’ misconduct, but also the growing anti-Republican sentiment backed by Joe Biden’s campaign. By that time, the Democrats had consistently labeled the former President the ‘existential threat to democracy’.
Pundits suggested that such abusive rhetoric had encouraged some individuals to take it seriously and consequently try to resolve the matter by themselves in a most brutal way. The ill-fated propaganda that resulted in at least two publicly known assassination attempts looks way too hypocritical with the backdrop of the Democrats’ constant statements on their intention to unite the dividing Americans.
In late July Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden in the presidential race and shifted attention onto the newly implemented atmosphere of what she called ‘joy and happiness’. Surprisingly, that tactics proved to be efficient in early stages of her campaign. August and September became the honeymoon for Kamala Harris as pollsters noted significant gains in her popularity across the country. However, that euphoria didn’t last long. Eventually, it turned out enthusiasm and joy that surrounded VP’s rallies were not enough on the long run.
‘October Disaster’
For decades, the presidential elections in the United States have been marked by a so-called ‘October Surprise’ that can significantly impact the outcome of the vote. Unfortunately, this year that unalienable element was full of sorrow and tragedy. Instead of scandals or some revelations on candidates’ filthy past, October 2024 was marred by devastating hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The natural disasters swept over Florida, taking away the most valuable resource in this country – the lives of the Americans. Leaving casualties and billions of dollars in damage, the hurricanes also exposed things like the way Federal government handles the issue with unacceptable time delay and provides people with some inadequate $750 support.
This is the very moment Biden-Harris Administration could have proven their dedication and hard work in resolving the aftermath. Alas, they failed as the Republican enthusiasts like Elon Musk and others rapidly provided almost the same amount of aid if not bigger in places where it was most necessary.
The situation with the hurricanes allowed the people to recon the broad differences between how the two parties handle the problem, an emergency situation in particular. It was no competition; it was an exam. Even though they didn’t hold power, the Republicans passed it with flying colors while the Democrats failed.
This as well as very controversial performance of Kamala Harris during rallies and interviews, her inconsistency regarding the Democrats’ presidential program, and disrespect to the U.S. political and social traditions like missing the Al Smith Dinner turned the tide in this year’s race.
The Democrats’ Desperate Gambit
With plummeting ratings and other problems like negative impact of Kamala’s podcasts on the voters’ preferences, the Democrats’ campaign HQ apparently decided that it was just about time for a ‘big gun’ of Nazi accusations. A high caliber populism began with a rapidly spreading John Kelly’s statement, a former high-ranking military, who claimed Trump had allegedly admired Hitler and his ideas. A few days later, on October 23, Kamala Harris denounced Donald Trump as a ‘fascist’ striving for ‘unchecked power’.
One doesn’t have to be an analyst to see the obvious attempt of marring the GOP candidate days before the election. To that extent, some pundits claim the way Kelly’s revelations appeared in the media resembles a military grade psychological-operation.
For any well-educated person with the slightest knowledge of the U.S. history it is clear that accusations of being a Nazi or admiring some Fascist ideas are utterly serious charges. As far as Kamala Harris is an incumbent VP, she might be at least literate. It is impossible to imagine such a top-tier official wouldn’t know what was the WW2, what kind of person and leader Hitler was and what inhuman atrocities he and his supporters committed.
Given the fact Kamala Harris sustainably accused Trump of being a Nazi, one would ask the reasons why the 45 U.S. President fits the ill-fated concept. According to encyclopedia Britannica, ‘Nazism’ is a far-right (extreme) totalitarian ideology with the following core principle: Racial Superiority, Totalitarianism, Antisemitism, Propaganda and Control of Information, and deep involvement of the State in the Economy.
The Real Fascist
A brief glance on the ‘Nazi’ concept is just enough to make out Trump has none in common with that terrible movement. His life, his deeds, his first term and his 2024 presidential program prove it best. Trump as well as the GOP is about protecting piece, promoting free market, and protecting the Americans’ rights, like the vital 1st and 2nd amendments as well as other.
At the same time, some core principles of Nazism surprisingly correspond with some parts of Kamala Harris’ program. She doubled down on government-controlled prices which is basically state interference in the economy. The Democratic ‘standard bearer’ consistently supported killing X and other social media extremely popular among the Republican and Conservative Americans. Take that and recall a wide-spread Democratic propaganda of various unnatural things like gender transition for kids etc. What is it if not a strong intention to control information and ban freedom of speech?
One might doubt above-mentioned thoughts as it is okay for different and even contrasting political movements to have some ideas in common. Certainly, that would be a correct argument. But my reasoning shows there is much more foundation to denounce Harris the same thing she has denounced Trump. In addition, Biden’s recent remarks about almost Republican voters as ‘garbage’ only prove that aggressive and harsh rhetoric of the Democrats.
Preparations for the Aftermath
Nevertheless, in my opinion there is something way bigger than just Harris accusing Trump for being a Nazi and that ‘garbage’ offense in the wake of the election. Just as Bret Baier remarked during an interview with Kamala Harris on Fox News, the GOP voters are no 10% or 20% of the population. It is literally half the country.
The Democrats’ campaign, once criticized for breeding hatred and discord in the American society that led to open gun violence, seems to be returning to the same rhetoric again. By claiming the GOP candidate is a Nazi Kalama Harris means those who vote Republican are Nazis too and therefore pose a greater threat to “Democratic voters”. But 250 million of the Americans are nor Nazi, nor garbage. They are just people who want to change the country for the better.
In that extent, her actions may be considered nothing but a deliberate spread of hatred among Americans with different political views days before the pivotal voting that has a potential to decide the U.S. future for decades. The potential fallout from this kind of language is alarming, and it’s not just speculation. Back in July such rhetoric enabled a young man commit assassination attempt and eventually die killing innocent people. Just imagine what kind of unrest and violence could erupt in the event the election doesn’t go in the Democrats’ favor.
