Honor killings are now just part of the wonderful tapestry of our diversity.

Two parents allegedly tried to choke their 17-year-old daughter outside her high school in an attempted “honor killing” for refusing an arranged marriage with an older man, according to police.

Ihsan Ali and his wife, Zahraa Ali, were charged with attempted murder for the shocking attack outside Timberline High School in Lacey, Washington, in which the dad also allegedly punched their daughter’s boyfriend in the face, police said.

Their daughter, who was not identified, said that “her father had recently been threatening her with honor killing for refusing an arranged marriage with an older man in another county,” according to charging documents obtained by The Post.

Let’s have a little background on Lacey, Washington.

How might that have come to be?

World Relief joined with World Relief Western Washington for their grand opening ribbon-cutting event in Olympia last week. The occasion brought together a diverse group of participants, including World Relief staff and volunteers, supporting organizations, leaders of state agencies, and prominent figures from the local community. In addition, Rose Gundersen, WR VP of Operations & Retail Services, and Andy Ryder, Lacey Mayor and WR board member, attended the event.

Washington is refugee central.

You may not realize it, but Washington State is one of the top states in the nation for refugee resettlement. Due to shifts in federal policies, hundreds of refugees are now arriving in the state, seeking assistance in finding a new home. During the last federal fiscal year, over 14,000 new refugees applied for assistance.

In a 2023 report from the Immigration Research Initiative, Washington State ranked 8th among the nation for refugees per capita. Per the report, in the past ten years, Washington has welcomed 20,454 refugees – making 264 refugees per 100,000 state residents.

This is how you get honor killings.
