Mark Carney BOMBS in French Debate

The Liberal Party leadership candidates faced off in the first of two debates. Things did not go well for the Liberal frontrunner

The Liberal Party of Canada hosted its French-language debate on Monday evening, and let’s just say, things didn’t go very well for Liberal front-runner Mark Carney.

Despite being the heavy favourite to win the leadership selection on March 9th, it became clear early on that his command of the French language was the weakest of the candidates.

Jean Philippe Fournier, a former advisor to Québec’s Minister of Finance, told me it was “an absolute disgrace.”

“Carney was surprisingly bad at French and oftentimes seemed visibly confused or unable to answer basic questions,” he said.

“He might not survive a real debate against Pierre Poilievre.”

Fournier posted on X that Carney was “clearly confused” and needed the moderator to repeat instructions in English.

Another user from Quebec, govt_corrupt, wrote that “Carney was easily the weakest of the 4 candidates.”
